About Golden Raven Studio

About the Artist:

Growing up, I loved playing with my Grandmother’s scarves. The only limitation for their uses was my own imagination. As I grew older, I began to collect scarves of my own.

In my teenage years, my creativity and imagination found a home in the world of theatre. Here my love for all things fiber lead me into the costume shops that every theatre relies on. Eventually I spent time in the costume craft show, building armor, painting fabric, and making masks, until I discovered dye.

With a bit of powder, some cloth, a splash of this and a sprinkle of that, suddenly I had something that looked nothing like what I started with. This ancient alchemy fascinated me, and I spent a large portion of my time in the Costume Design program at Michigan State University studying dyes.

After working in professional theatre making other people’s visions and dreams come true, starting my own studio allows me to share my own visions and dreams. I’ve chosen to share my lifelong love of fabric, and I hope you find them the perfect way to add a touch of magic to your everyday life.

About the Process:

I am passionate about creating in ways that build and honor connections.

Each piece explores the intersection of time and place, season and plant, materials and people.

Honoring these connections guides my process. Using local plants, seeking those which are abundant and vigorous. Harvest sustainably and responsibly. Grow what I can, building connections with family farms and other people on the land.  Recycling food waste into beautiful colors. Breathing new life into forgotten textiles. Conserving water. Working with others that share these values. Making something which is far more than the sum of its parts, connection running through every thread.

Connect. Collaborate. Create.

In Gratitude.

It is my hope that my art may speak to people and help them express themselves in a genuine way.
